What is the estimated completion date?
If the money can be raised, groundbreaking can begin by spring 2027. The project could be completed as soon as fall 2027, if not before.
What will park hours and park rules be?
Since this is a City of Pella park, the City will set the hours and rules of operation.
Why is the dog park outside Pella city limits?
The land which is being proposed is ideal for many reasons: it is not in a residential area; there are restrooms nearby already; the land is available and desired to be used as a dog park; parking and waste disposal are provided, and it is spacious and beautiful! While it is nice to be able to walk to a dog park, most people have to drive at least some distance regardless of where it is built, even within city limits.
How big will it be and what amenities will it have?
The park will be approximately four acres and is tentatively planned to have separate fields for large dogs, small dogs, and tiny, old & timid dogs (TOTS). A multi-use field is planned to be used for turf rotational purposes and other special uses. A dog wash station is planned as well as lighting, benches, shade structures, water fountain, waste stations, and double-gated entry for safety.
Will there be a cost to use the park?
That decision will rest with the City of Pella. Many dog parks have usage fees which pay for things like waste bags and security software, among other things.
